I purchased some of the extra pork tamales that Abby made yesterday. They are delicious. There isn't a lot of coating and she is very plentiful on the meat. We had shredded pork tamales. She also makes this little pastry pockets that have a ground beef mixture w/olives that is out of this world. I have had gastric by-pass and I can eat these with no bad effects. Going to buy more and give to my parents as a gift. Abby keep up the good work/cooking.
just go onto RYS and put in tamales in the search window and it will bring it up. She's got ones that are frozen and can be cooked at home. Think she may have cooked ones also. She lives in Meade Loop.
I am from Texas and those are not Texas style Tamales, they lack so much in flavor, when I bought mine the corn husk had dirt all over them, they were not soak or cleaned at all. The masa (dough) has no spices in it at all and the masa was not spread evenly either. I wouldn't buy from here again but then again I know how they should be made.
@ lacie....i agree with you about the tamales, i bought a dozen from her and while she does put more meat than most people the masa was flavorless, i am also from texas and i am mexican so they are not what i am used to,but, i will say that they are not the worst i've ever had
but then again I know how they should be made.
Amen! LOL! My hubby is from Texas and expects them to be a certain way! Some people (even restaurants here) like to "think" they can make authentic Mexican food. What a joke!
No they are not the worst but everyone thinks they are the best and they are not. It is a joke lilmama4 the Mexican food sucks around here, I am from the San Antonio area now thats food to ramp and rave about. But everyone thinks the food is good here too like El Tapatio, that place is the worst? Lol poor gringos don't know any better.
Lol poor gringos don't know any better.
Amen to that! LOL! My hubby is from El Paso and he grew up on real Mexican food! His mom taught me how to make it too and I used to be a gringa who thought Taco Bell was good. Let me tell you I know better now! I've seen the light :P I make better Mexican food then El Tap!
Oh man, I'm white and I think Taco Bell is horrible, LOL. I always love authentic mexican restaurants who do ya right! I personally think Los Potrillos is okay, but I usually drink too much of my frozen strawberry margarita before I get my food so everything tastes good, LOL!

lol thats true, alittle alchol makes everything taste alittle better
Blondie you are too funny, Los Protrillos is alright but I miss the mexican places back at home. El tapito is stupid when it comes to their drinks, I had asked for a pina colada and the put tequlia in it,I was like WTF is this are you out of rum?

LMAO! Their horchata is okay and I like that they carry "Tecate", but that's about all that's good there! The food sucks! I seriously cook way better and I am white! Thank God for my Mexican mother in law! She's an awesome teacher :)
Everyone is entitled to their opinions but I still like them and will continue to buy them. If any of you can do better, I highly encourage you to make "your own style" of Texas tamales. As to the dirt on the husk, I never ran into that problem in any of the tamales that I have eaten. Maybe they are not exactly like the ones that you are used to getting or making, but who is to say that everyone would think your "Texas tamales" would be any better. To the ladies that said they may not be the best but they are not the worse. Thank you for your remarks. Its always easy to critize others when you are just sitting in the background. I would be willing to do a taste test between "your Texas-style Tamales" and Abby's tamales. Not everyone has the same taste buds as everyone else.
Donna~Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I think it's pretty petty of you to comment on other people's opinions just because they aren't the same as yours. I personally didn't post on the specific topic because I haven't eaten them, but everyone is entitled to their opinions and you should respect that people are willing to share that.
Donna~ Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, you don't even know the how much work it put into tamales. Those Tamales are rushed and half a**. But then again what do you know, you are one of those people that think the Mexican food here is great, but I guess I should consider the source.

Yes, I am from San Antonio also, man, I miss the food back home. Especially the little taco stands on the side of the road. Those are the best! I have to say though that the "Mexican" food here, it not great. My tortillas are better than those at some of these places here in Kansas, and I am white! One of the things I had to learn to make before I got married was tortillas, and my mother in law taught me well!
Hey, I did find a pretty good lil' hole in the wall Mexican joint up in Manhattan called "The Hillside Cafe" awhile back. My hubby loved it and he's Hispanic. I have to admit it was yummy! We should all go there for lunch one day.
Ay Dios mio!!! LOLOLOLOL...Listen, we all have our own opinion, that's what the great thing about living in the USA is, and what's even greater, is that our hubby's are the ones doing the fighting for our freedom of speech. I am also Mexican, and I know that this is so true, you have to be careful whose tamales you eat and who you buy them from, especially if you are Mexican/Hispanic, because we are all used to a specific taste and we are all used to certain ones. As far as Los gringos goes, lol..well..its only natural for someone from another race to take a liking to someone else's "authentic" food. It may not be "OUR AUTHENTIC" but to them, it is. If you loved the tamales and would buy them from this lady again, then by gosh, go do it! That's the glory of it all, you're in America where your hubby fights for that freedom to give to you, so that you can go buy the tamales. And for us "Mexicans/Hispanics" lol..well...we'll enjoy the "TRUE AUTHENTIC TAMALES DE TEXAS Y MEXICO!" lol...Have a great night ladies....Let's just enjoy the food! :0) Andale pues! Good night!
