Tomorrow my husband and I will be going to the Manhattan area to scope out local dealerships for a good used car. We're looking for something down the lines of Sedan-style but doesn't have to be, and our budget will be $3000, anyone have any recommendations or experiences they would like to share? We would appreciate any input we can get. We're wanting to purchase from a dealership so we can try to get some type of warranty, we've had better luck in the past dealing with dealerships than personal sellers, just our preference.

I dunno about them personally, but I do see ALOT of cars that have that "Affordable Auto" sticker on them. A girl I use to babysit for went there and got a really nice van pretty new 08 I think and they paid around 5000.00 for it. Had a couple small things wrong with it and the guy fixed them for her. Plus she got some free oil changes for a year or something.

This was at the one in Abilene, so I am assuming the one in Manhattan would be the same.

From personal experience i would have to say DON'T go there. We got a car from there and your payments are for a year and ahalf. Before that year and a half was up we had to put a new fuel pump/filter both 02 sensors and an ignition module. That's just to make it run. Also the window motor went out in december while it was snowing lol...and the window was stuck down. That car was nothing but trouble. Oh and the check engine light was ALWAYS on. We contacted them and they did NOTHING for us. Also you only get a 30 day warranty. NONE of the repairs were cheaper than 250.00 each.

I dunno, anything other than what my friend said. But I would take the warning from CNG and run...lol

I went through carmax in wichita. I bought both my Cadillacs from them and had a wonderul experience. I got warranties on both my vehicles. I'm not sure what they would have for your price range but you can check it out @ www.carmax.com

I always buy my cars from JC Auto Sales I've bought 5 cars from him(changing them as my mood and situations changed-kids,mileage,space,towing,etc) The owner is friendly and if he doesn't have a car in your budget he can find you one, he is always there for me and put me in an awesome car for a AWESOME price. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the advice everyone, but we do need to stay locally because my husband is possibly deploying soon and we really can't afford any long trips, we'd rather save the money for the vehicle. We are looking to finance, even though we have the money to pay cash right out, but only to help me build some more credit, we usually do everything in my husband's name.

JC Auto Sales. Thy are a great dealership. We have gotten 3 cars from him. Mike is the owner and is a very nice guy and will find you something if it is not on the lot and in your price range. JCAUTOSALES.ORG is the website, not all cars will be listed but most are.

So, we had a horrible experience with Wilson Motors in Junction City. They had a car we went to look at on saturday, he said he would have to get it into the muffler shop today, monday, to make sure nothing serious was wrong with it, so we wanted him to contact us today after that was done. My husband calls at noon today to be told that they weren't able to get it into the shop today but they're getting lots of offers so if we want it we need to come get it. We go there, we're filling out the paperwork and everything, then a lady walks in with a hand full of cash. Turns out she had already put a down-payment on the vehicle and was coming to purchase it! We were never told someone had put a down-payment on it or anything, we were filling out the paperwork to purchase the vehicle! He sold it right in front of us to this lady. I will never do business with this dealership ever again.

I posted on one of the other sites but try my uncle's car lot on Tuttle Creek Boulvard. Its right before you get to Vista Drive-In and beside one of the hotels on the west side of the road. The other side is a drop-off. He's been in business first in JC then Manhattan for over 40 years. Must be doing something right. Usually I buy from individuals but I have bought from my uncle and the car was great. Don't know about warranties or anything. Wish I knew where my cousin has his car lot. It was on the south side of Manhattan but he's moved. Check with the Chamber of Commerce on who has been blackballed. Alot of these guys will take you to the cleaners. The dealerships are so overpriced. But if you don't mind overpriced go to Green Ford in Abilene. You'll get a good running car but you'll pay for it. Hope that helps a little.

I would run away as fast as I could from Affordable, both in Abilene and Manhattan. The cars they sell are not worth crap, you pay on them forever, and the sales people are rude, and have very questionable sales practices. Everything that was said before about them was true, their cars all have very close to 200,000 miles on them, and will not last the extent of the loan. If your husband is deployed, they hound you every week, to "remind" you that your payment is due, and they need to make sure that you are still going to make the payments, which is straight bs.

We were able to get a car from Jim Clark Suzuki on Grant St. We were able to get financed through the same company that we have our truck through right now. This vehicle only has 112,000 miles on it and it has some minor things that need to get fixed that they are taking care of before we even leave the lot with it. I'm very happy with the decision we made and this salesman was so kind and he wasn't the slightest bit deceiving.
