We have been here almost 6 months and havent met tons of people partially because we live of post this is our fourth duty station. We are from the east coast so this mid-west is very new to us.

Any suggestions
I think we will be here a while

I see people leave here left and right... My husband has decided to do everything in his power to stay here tho. I had to find a hobby and try not to dwell on the negative.

It's really not that bad here. If I had a penny for every time I heard someone say it sucks here, I'd be able to travel the world. Once you become active in activities and meeting people, it's not bad at all. Make the best of every situation you're put in. It's hard, but makes life more livable.

LovinLife, I couldn't agree with you more!
People make Riley out to be a hell hole. I haven't made any good friends here but I love it nonetheless.

I'd say thats the worst part, is not being able to find any quality friends. First time I've suffered from this issue, but I think people are just changing in general everywhere so its prolly not a here thing. I have a car thats fun to drive and I enjoy trying to get lost in the backroads and find things worthy of photographing. Keeps me occupied.

I hope it is true. We love it here and want to stay here as long as they'll let us. But we are originally from the midwest so I guess this is more our cup of tea than other parts of the country.

The only reason I could see people hating it here is if they are used to living next to a big city. There are good people here, and there is lots to do if you open your eyes and look for it. There is a lot of "great outdoors" type of activities around here, as well as lots of museums and tons of history. There are some neat geological things here, too.

My best suggestion is to find something where you can meet local people, not just military people. For us, that was a church. We have met both military and non-military and are starting to make some great friends.

Try to find some kind of group that interests you, be it a mom's group, craft group, or any other type of thing you might be interested in. If you go somewhere that the people there will have something in common with you already, it's easier to break the ice.

Also, "like" several local things on Facebook, like groups and museums and malls and stores and such. They always post on FB when they're having an event or giveaway or something like that. It really helps with finding things to do.

It's not bad here. I haven't seen it as a blackhole. I'm leaving soon! lol And I've seen quite a few moving trucks lately! There are over 5 empty houses on my street in Warner! I keep to myself so of course I think it's peaceful.

I really like it here. This is actually a big city compared to where I am from haha. Theres tons of historical stuff here that I love and lots of outdoorsy stuff to do. I've met some cool people here too. I came from ft. stewart and this place is heaven to me haha.

I am not sure about Manhattan and JC's newspapers but a lot of times you can find things to do listed in there somewhere. Join a bowling league, or darts. If you enjoy reading, look for book clubs. You just have to go out and find things to get involved with! Look for local community activities online also. Many groups have Facebook pages that list things to do also.

We love it here in Kansas! We are hoping that when it comes time for my hubs to re-up, we can stay here!

I've heard it can be a black hole, but not necessarily for everyone. I don't love it here, but don't hate it either. I try and keep busy so it's not so bad. We bought a house last yr so I'm hoping we are here for a little while :)
