Hey I was just wondering if Ft. Riley, Manhattan or JC did some kind of yearly BIG YARD SALE? I have a lot of things I need to sell and I've posted on Craigslist but no luck yet =) I've been looking into bookoo.com as well, thanks in advance

I know I am having a yard sale this Saturday. We are ETSing and have way too much stuff LOL

Any tips for someone who's never done one before? I have soooo much stuff. Like large vacuum bags full of little girl clothes up to 2 years and maternity clothes and some furniture stuff. I just want it gone but its all in really good condition and I would like to make some money back on it.

The best advice I can give is remember it is a yard sale, and people are looking for great buys, Usually people don't care if you paid 20 for a dress they will want to give you a couple bucks, not half price.
keep an eye on your money, I use a money box and keep it with me at all times.
have a lot of ones and change, going to a yard sale and the person hosting it not having any change is very annoying.
Make sure your items are clearly marked with prices and again be prepared to barter back and forth.

towards the half way point if you still have lots you might want to cut more deals and for clothes maybe do a fill a bag for a set price. Advertise in advance --make sure you have your address out there so people can mentally prepare for their day of bargain hunting on areas to hit.
If you are selling kids winter clothes as it warms up keep in mind who knows what size a kid will be in with growth spurts so don't go crazy on price for a gamble to fit most buyers will pass them over if marked to high. other then that good luck on your sale.

We are getting ready to do one in the near future also... we have done pretty well in the past but we moved last year to the outskirts of town so am a little leary as to how many people we will get... of course, we do get alot of lake traffic so maybe.... :)

and I agree with everything that has been said... if you price decently, it should sell!!!

Mark your items (as someone said before). I can't tell you how many yard sales I've gone to and nothingis marked. I don't like asking. I'm not much of a hagglier so if it's marked I will pay sticker price as long as it isn't a ridiculous price. If I have to ask, I usually just put the item back down and move on. I know marking items is a lot of work, but I have a large yard sale every year and I mark everything.

Eastcoast...
I totally agree... if things are not marked, I will not buy... If you cant take the time to mark, I cant cant take the time to buy... same with clothes... We have a sale at least once a year... I dont mark individually but they are all folded, sizes together, and we do have a sign that will tell you the prices... like 10 cents for kids pants, etc... my grandson and granddaughter have gobs of clothes to sell... I really dont think my granddaughter could possibly have worn all the clothes her mom will sell!!! :) And maybe I am to organized, I dont know... but I think if it is presentable, more people will stop versus thrown in a basket to dig through...

I dont mark my items, I offer a price and work from there. I have been very successful at yard sales and online sales. Maybe mark some of your low end items but on the stuff you want to make money, try and read the person and see what you can get. I earned the Garbage Vulture Name making money at this and Im writting a book on it. If your goal is to make money, dont mark it. If your goal is toclean out garage and never have to talk to your buyers, mark it.
