WHY!!!!

First it was the windsheild people, who honestly only approached me once when they first started a looong time ago. Yesterday it was some sort of car wash in a can. They guy was standing by my car on a smoke break and asked me if I was interested in the product. i told him no but he continued on with his speal. I told him I literally had $3 on me but he kept on going and said they were going to be on sale til I bought one. I said again, I have no cash on me and he says, "thats ok we take credit and debit cards" and I said my fiance has my debit card."well, thats ok we take the star card" I don't have a star card. Then he gives me a nasty look and says, "fine ma'am" and walks off. Really?! I know they are just trying to do their job but I don't even want to go to the shopette anymore because I feel like I'm always being harrassed to buy something outside.

Many of us have complained in the past on here about those pushy salesmen at the shopette. There is a female one at the one by the hospital and she tries to flirt and throw her body at guys to sell the product, I almost went up to her and offered her a new job at Lucky's. I usually roll my windows down and converse with my kids when I fill up or pretend to be occupied digging change out from under my seat. I will deliberately avoid them, not make eye contact, and look preoccupied. I wish fort Riley would not allow such sales people who physically approach and push a product. If I was interested I would walk up to their table. If you are going to be a concessionaire here on post you should have to be near your stand and not roaming to push a product. The professional photo company that is in the PX does the same thing....entice, push, and guilt you into signing your kids up for a $20 photo session, but their cheapest package is nearly $100! They are a complete scam. Pay them $20, schedule a session, have your pics taken, receive no photos unless you upgrade to a package. I did it once and never again.

Yes, they are aggressive--and yes, it is annoying.

I know they have to make a living, but I have no problem giving them the business. I'm as aggressive in my rejection as I am in my approach. After I say "no" the first time, I've found a firm/semi-loud, "Sir, I said 'NO'" does the trick.

I did commissioned phone sales way back in college--I didn't make much money, lol. If I have to practically bully you/badger you/guilt you into buying something, it just isn't worth it.

It's insane that we have to pretend to be pre occupied in order to avoid them.

I also did commissioned phone sales when I was 19 and I hated it. We were told we would get fired if we did not rebutal at least 3 times after the customer said no. So I try to be compassionate with people in sales because I know they are trying to pay the bills but it is ridiculous and I am shocked it's allowed to go on at a gov't installation like that. And wow on that picture stuff!!! =(

I don't mind them honestly lol. They are usually nice people. When I've politely said, no, they have backed off. One time when I said no thank you, the guy sang to me. It was funny. Afterwards he walked away. I just about died laughing. I'm a people person though and will talk to anyone anywhere. My husband hates it lol.

FYI whom ther these salesmen are working on the Post illegally. Ask to see their credentials from the Post not Junction City. if that is too much of a conversation then ask whom their supervisor is. Get his number call and state on the phone that you are feeling harassed and to please have them stop, still too much for you, then call 239-6767 witch is the MP Station. Tell them the hassle your having and a squad will be there in less than 3 mins. Hope this helps. It helped me everytime....

Garbage Vulture --- 12 years ago -

They are not working here illegaly, they have permission from AAFES. To make your complaint heard use the ICE complaints. Every one of them is read and researched and acted on. Door to door sales are illegal and you should call the MPs right away for that.

Amber --- 12 years ago -

Don't call the MPs they have more pressing things to do then to waste time on something you can just ignore. Just let them wash your windows...or whatever they are doing at the time...and then move on with your day.

Door to door sales people can get a permit to come on post.

Garbage Vulture --- 12 years ago -

Not correct, You may get a permit to do sales at quarters with an invite, but door to door sales are never allowed. No vacuume sales, no meat sales, no insurance sales etc, unless they have a permit and you invited them to your house. They DO NOT have permission to sell door to door ever.

My bad.

These folks are manilpulative pieces of garbage that don't hesitate to target kids into buying their rubbish.

You shouldn't have to say "no" more than once; be prepared to receive a firm "piss off" after your first unwanted and failed attempt. Target kids when they are out buying Gatorades while biking? Be prepared to feel two feet tall.
